Who We Serve

Our target population for direct services is those who are impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse, stalking, incest, and other violent crimes, as well as others in need of crisis intervention and/or personal and systems advocacy.

Our target population for educational, outreach, prevention, and community coordination services is all community members, including the transient labor force, and local and regional service providers.

USAFV strives to provide services to all those who seek them, promoting awareness and prevention of interpersonal violence, sexual abuse, and suicide, and advocating for health and well-being.

Crisis Shelter & Area

The Unalaskans Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence (USAFV) shelter is a small facility in Unalaska, Alaska. USAFV advocates are always available to provide information and support to shelter residents. For more information please call 907-581-1500.

Length of Stay:

  • USAFV’s policy states that survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other crime may enter the shelter for an initial stay of up to 30 days.  Additional time is an option, depending on the survivor’s circumstances and shelter demand.

  • Women and children who are homeless for other reasons are also able to stay at the shelter for 30 days.  Additional time is an option, depending on the survivor’s circumstances and shelter demand.

Our shelter:

Our shelter is small, but cozy and welcoming.  We can easily house four women and children, and can accommodate up to 6 if needed.

  • Beds are comfortable, and there is a crib and playpen available for small children.

  • There is a nice kitchen and a laundry room for residents to use.

  • Our pantry is stocked and we will try to accommodate any dietary restrictions if possible.

  • We have a comfortable living room and a library full of books and resources available for your viewing at any time.

  • The shelter is a secure place that provides a safe space for survivors to determine what steps they want to take.

The Location:

This light-filled shelter is a place of comfort and healing located in downtown Unalaska.  If it is safe to do so, we encourage resident survivors to walk along the nearby beaches and walking trails, allowing themselves time to think, explore their options, and make their own decisions about their lives.
